Now is the perfect time to start your personal brand and in the final video of this three-part series, I’m breaking down exactly how to get started.
Below is the video version of this blog post that you can watch or if you rather read, just scroll down below to read the transcription from this video.
1 | CREATE CONTENT
Okay, so in the last video we discussed the importance of your brand assets such as your social media platforms and creating a website.
But the true gold to create a lasting impression with your personal brand is your content.
“Investing in creating content is investing in your brand and and business.”
Your content lets your audience know what you stand for, how you provide value, and ultimately how you can help them solve their problems.
So the next question is, what kind of content should you create?
If you like being on camera, then create videos.
If you like to write, then post articles on your blog.
If you’re afraid of being on camera and you don’t like to write but like to talk a lot, then start a podcast.
Video, written, or audio. Pick your medium and run with it.
2 | BE PERSISTENT AND CONSISTENT
It takes time and effort to really get known online and there is NO such thing as an overnight success.
My first YouTube videos were AWFUL and your’s will be too but if I didn’t keep going, I wouldn’t have achieved everything I have.
Anything worth while takes time but if you aren’t committed to showing up for yourself, you can’t expect people to show up and buy from you.
You really need to be patient and ask yourself, “What is the alternative?”
If you quit you can go work a regular job, making regular money, and living a regular life or you can put your head down and do what it takes to build the life of your dreams.
3 | EMBRACE THE UNKNOWN
Next thing is, you need to embrace the unknown.
Some of you may be asking yourself, “Well how can you guarantee that if I start a personal brand I’ll find success?”
Now, there are no guarantees in life.
There are no guarantees when you have a 9-5 job nor when you start your own thing and that’s the importance of embracing the unknown.
What you create is what you will attract and I promise the opportunities will come, you just have to BELIEVE IN YOURSELF.
Within three months of creating my first brand SportsNAYtion and making crappy videos, with crappy audio, and crappy everything, I was asked to host a radio show with NBA legends Penny Hardaway and Charles Oakley.
Then I got approached to be on MTV and NBA TV, then speaking engagements and more, all because I made the decision to put myself out there.
Remember, what you create is what you will attract and the same will happen for you if you just decide to start.
4 | BE YOURSELF
Now the last thing and probably the most important thing is to be yourself.
“Nobody is you and that’s your superpower.”
When you build a business around you, your brand, your personality, what you stand for, your gifts, your skills, your mission, and your vision you will experience immense joy being able to build a brand that matters.
Don’t you dare try to change who you are to be like.
It’s exhausting to pretend to be someone you’re not.
When you embrace and express the real you, your audience will absolutely fall in love with you.
The world needs YOU.
The world needs your GENIUS.
The world needs your GIFTS.
The world needs your SKILLS.
And the world needs your LOVE.
Remember, part of the dream of being your own boss is getting to be yourself 100% of the time, so challenge yourself to blend more of who you are into what you do.
Alright, so that is the end of this three-part series on how to start a personal brand.
The first part is all about discovering your BRAND VISION and getting to know yourself and your mission on a deeper level.
Part two was all about learning about your BRAND ASSETS, such as your social media and especially your website.
And this last part was about the importance of creating content, staying consistent, and just being yourself.
Remember to own your greatness and brand your brilliance online.
